LAN cable is used to establish a network in a local area. These days, LAN networks have become very common as they are helpful in keeping different departments of a building together. They help in connecting huge number of computers, printers, workstations and servers together. An Example of local area network is Ethernet. One other local area network which is used widely these days is token ring network. Token ring network is used very frequently as it minimizes the problem of traffic congestion. LAN networks use LAN cable for connecting different devices to form a complete network through transmission of data can be done.
LAN cable is made of twisted copper wires which are considered to be a good conductor. The most common configuration uses 8 copper wires or more precisely we can say that it contains 4 pairs of twisted copper wires. The copper conductor is insulated in a LAN cable in order to prevent it from any kind of damage. When so many numbers of pairs are coupled together then they are known as multi pair cable. There are some reasons which have made manufacturers to use twisted pairs of wires in LAN cables. The major reasons include easy installation and usage. They also offer high performance rate than other configuration methods. LAN cables have been seen to contain a wrapper which is made of foil and acts as a shield which is electrostatic in nature. In the end LAN cables like others have connecters connected to both of its ends.
